The Flu & You – How Can TCM Help?

Chinese medicinal clinical studies have suggested that using acupuncture as a preventative approach to colds and flu can reduce the incidence of upper respiratory tract infection and shorten the duration of the illness. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine work by rebalancing the body’s systems, regulating the body’s healing energies, and enhancing the immune system.

Even though germs, bacteria, and viruses are everywhere—in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink—according to Chinese medical theory, they do not cause disease. Illness occurs when our Wei Qi and our meridian organ systems are weak and out of balance. Perimenopausal in a Pandemic

Meridian Point: Large Intestine 4

Large Intestine 4 is one of the most important and influential acupoints in the entire body. The Chinese name for Large Intestine 4 is “He Gu” meaning union valley or converging valley. The point is located on the hand in the web between the thumb and index finger, also described as the depression where the index finger and thumb bones part. Germ Theory: 101

Why do some people always catch a cold, and others don’t?
Viruses, germs, and bacteria are everywhere. They are in the food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink, but not all of them are bad or harmful.

Think of the immune system as your body’s security detail. The cells, tissues, and organs that comprise it help repel foreign invaders like harmful bacteria, parasites and other microbes that can cause infections. Disorders of the immune system range from everyday annoyances like mild seasonal allergies to serious illnesses like leukemia. Stress, lack of sleep and other common conditions can contribute to a weakened immune system, which can make you vulnerable to infections. continue reading »

WE’RE OPEN

We are re-open!

As you know, we closed the practice one week prior to the Illinois Stay At Home Order to prevent the spread of the virus. We do not make these decisions lightly.  Acupuncture care is deemed essential under the Illinois Stay At Home Order.

We will be taking all the precautions that have been recommended by both the CDC and OSHA, and in some instances going beyond those recommendations.

Evanstrong – Helping Out our Neighbors

We are partnering with Curt’s Cafe and C&W Market to provide an “essentials” care package to 40-45 local families.

Curt’s Cafe is providing meals daily for 40-45 families identified through Connections for the Homeless and Family Focus who are shut in because they are COVID19 positive or are in a high risk group.

We need your help to donate funds that will provide these families with a one-time delivery of an “essentials” care package (see donate button below).

Contents of the care packages were determined through collaboration with Curt’s Cafe and generously acquired by C&W Market. They include items such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, masks, etc. and are modified to fit the family’s size.

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to pay for the contents of care packages which will be prepared and sent along with meal deliveries for a single day. 100% of donations will be used for care package contents. Any money raised above $2,000 will be promptly split evenly between Connections for the Homeless, Curt’s Cafe and Family Focus.
All donations will be spent locally. Masks are being donated by Jen Roberts Law LLC.

Successful Herbs to Move Liver Qi

We often say in Traditional Chinese Medicine that the liver is the system most easily susceptible to stress. Stress knots the Qi (energy) and makes its flow stagnate – this happens most quickly in the liver energy system. The liver, in TCM, is in charge of the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body. This means that if Qi flow is impaired (ie, by stress), the liver system will suffer. Don’t let your health challenges or aches and pains get worse while we are on shut down. I am available to help you!!

Someday I’ll design a bodysuit that I can communicate with remotely and have it needle specific points based on my direction. But as of now, I haven’t done that. I could create tiny voodoo dolls of each of you, and perform acupuncture that way.

But I think I’ll be able to help you the most with personalized treatment plans.

Your personalized treatment plan will be specific for your condition including some combination of:

1) “traditional” acupressure including what points, how to locate them, how to apply pressure, whether to use magnets (magnets can be ordered online for delivery);

2) auricular treatment using ear seeds or magnets;

3) recommendations for foods, teas and herbs/spices based on their Chinese medicine properties;

4) suggestions for essential oils to diffuse or apply to acupressure points;

5) coaching on how to perform cupping and/or guasha (tools can be ordered tor delivery);

6) extensive lifestyle recommendations that you won’t find from a preliminary Google search – things like humming exercises for seasonal allergies/immune system boost, details on the 5 pillars of my Get Some Shut Eye method, hara abdominal massage for digestive issues, breathing exercises for stress management, guidance on living as an empath, and connections to numerous resources. You know I’m always learning something new or connecting with a new expert.
