Connecting to the Community: Vera

OnIMG_3027e key part of your health is your connection to your community. And one way to connect with your community is to get involved and give back. Each Saturday, we feature different ways members of the Northshore Acupuncture Center commuity are rolling up their sleeves and giving back.

This week’s feature is Vera who volunteers serving meals or working in the food pantry at the ARK. The ARK provides free social and medical services to help distressed members of the Chicagoland Jewish community return to self-reliance. They have opportunities to volunteer in Northbrook and Chicago one-time, occasionally, weekly or monthly.

Problems sleeping? Try your grandma’s remedy

609e40cc5a8d70671c16a73ce701a20cAre you yawning through the day only to hit the pillow and be wide awake? Do you use sleeping pills to little effect and with fear that it will lead to more severe problems down the road?

What would your grandmother suggest?

Take a bath with epsom salts and lavender and bergamot essential oils. A magnesium deficiency can magnify stress and anxiety making it harder to go to sleep and stay asleep. Soaking in epsom salts gives your body the magnesium you need. Essential oils like lavender and bergamot are rich in linalool and linalyl acetate, compounds that have well-known relaxing properties.

For more suggestions of how to transform your sleep, join our complimentary 10 day Restful Sleep Challenge. You can order lavender and bergamot essential oils at www.mydoterra.com/amylandolt.

10 Day Restful Sleep Challenge

Restful Sleep ChallengeAre you yawning through the day only to hit the pillow and be wide awake? Do you use sleeping pills to little effect and with fear that it will lead to more severe problems down the road?

You’ve read all of the information on the internet, and have tried the standard recommendations – no electronics an hour before bed, listening to white noise, keeping the temperature in your bedroom under 68 – all to no avail.

Northshore Acupuncture Center is announcing a complimentary 10 day restful sleep challenge starting Monday, August 1st. Each day, challenge participants will receive an email with actions to take to support their sleep. The program was created by combining Chinese medicine knowledge with experience working with people with sleeping issues; it goes beyond the standard recommendations found in a google search about sleep issues.

The activities will help participants fall asleep more quickly, get the rest they are desperately seeking without the side effects, spend less time worrying about sleep, and reclaim their health and happiness.

If you are interested in learning more about the challenge, you can contact Amy at 815.814.1319 or enroll at www.restfulsleepchallenge.com.

Ways to Keep Your Memory Sharp

Don’t forget about physical exercise

Believe it or not, when you’re exercising your body, you’re exercising your mind as well. Aerobic exercise gets your blood pumping, which increases the oxygen going to your brain and lowers your risk of disorders such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease that can lead to memory loss. If you can, start with some exercise in the morning. This can clear your head right off the bat to stay focused and alert during the day. Exercises that require coordination are especially helpful for keeping the mind active such as simply throwing a ball back and forth. continue reading »
