What is your bedtime ritual?
I’ve found bedtime rituals that have too many steps are difficult for me to sustain, so I have pared it down to a few essentials: a
relaxing cup of tea (Bedtime, Sleepytime or Chamomile), tucking my puppy into her sleep spot and sharing a snuggle, and a body scan with a soothing light imagery right before I go to sleep.
If you have had a particularly challenging day and your normal bedtime routine isn’t enough for you to fall asleep, what do you try next?
If I can’t fall asleep it is usually because my nervous system hasn’t quite settled into balance yet. I keep my yoga mat rolled out so I am more likely to get on it (it really does work!), so I might practice a couple of poses with deep breaths and holds of at least 3 minutes. Two of my favorites are: 1) Supta Padangusthasana
with a strap and 2) Balasana/Child’s Pose
with a bolster.
