Malik Turley founded Hip Circle Studio and transitioned it into Hip Circle Empowerment Center for one reason – to change the world. She found personal and professional change through bellydance and fitness and spends as much time as possible doing both while being surrounded by awesome women.
What is your bedtime ritual?
I don’t have a bedtime routine (beyond going to bed at the same time as my husband).
What do you do during the day that has the biggest impact (positive or negative) on your sleep?
I credit my ease with sleep to my daily activity (yoga and dance every day).
In the last 5 years, what new belief, behavior or habit has most improved your sleep?
I read the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown and took a chance. He discusses sleep in chapter 8 and debunks the myth that staying up later/sleeping fewer hours makes you more productive. I gave myself a week of letting my body sleep as long as it wanted and discovered 7 hours is my sweet spot. Now I make getting those 7 hours a priority every night.
