I know many of us are feeling grief, anxiety, outrage, fear and dread right now.
I have a three-pronged strategy that’s been a lifesaver for me (alongside getting plenty of rest, movement, water and delicious, nourishing food).
1) Taking action within my own community.
3) Being intentional about focusing on the magical, beautiful moments that happen every day.
If you need ideas on how to take action (#1), just give me a shout!
For #3, I invite you to join me for a 21-day gratitude practice starting on Monday, 1/20/25. It will only take a few minutes of your day, and I promise you will get big returns. We’ll follow two practices from Shawn Achor’s The Happiness Advantage book. Sure, you could do this on your own, but why not join for some extra fun and accountability?
You can find the practices Three Acts of Gratitude and The Doubler in this article.
Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be doing:
1) Three Acts of Gratitude
Spend two minutes a day scanning the world for three SPECIFIC, NEW things you’re grateful for – to train your brain to scan for positives instead of threats. For example, instead of saying you’re grateful for nature, say you are grateful for being able to see the sunshine and blue skies this morning on your walk.
2) The Doubler
Pick one positive experience from the past 24 hours and write out as many details about it as possible. Describe what you saw, heard, smelled, felt and tasted as applicable. The brain can’t tell the difference between visualization and actual experience, so you’ve doubled the impact of that happy moment.

This isn’t about “toxic positivity.” The goal is to pay attention to the beautiful moments, so that we have the resilience and capacity to help each other during a crisis and to take action against injustices. It helps us connect with what matters most deeply to us and recognize our commitments to making life better for all. Gratitude fosters compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and empathy, which are essential for creating the kind of communities we imagine. When we face suffering and so many needs and injustices, we get overwhelmed which can lead to exhaustion or despair. A gratitude practice gives us clarity about what we value and the resilience to fight for those values for our global human community and the natural world.

As an extra incentive, participants who submit specific, new responses for both exercises for 21-days will be entered in drawing for a free acupuncture and/or vibrational sound therapy session.
